For Community Members
Nature Sanctuary
Our Nature Sanctuary focuses on engaging King County residents in creating a safe and healing green space.
Over 3-6 months, participants will join co-design sessions and visit nature preserves to share and develop ideas with fellow community members.
Our goal is to incorporate Indigenous knowledge, Afro-Indigenous storytelling, and environmental justice into the sanctuary's design. By the end of the program, we hope to have a well-thought-out plan for a nature sanctuary that reflects community input and fosters healing. This program is free and participants receive gift cards as a thank you for their contributions.
Nature Sanctuary
This program is designed for:
King County residents who wish to contribute their knowledge and vision to the creation of a safe and healing green space.
What to expect:
For 3-6 months, you participate in hybrid co-design sessions and conversations. You will visit nature preserves and healing spaces throughout King County in person or virtually with other community members.
When we meet:
1x/month we meet for an hour. We facilitate conversations about Indigenous knowledge, Afro-Indigenous story telling, land acknowledgement, children, environmental justice education, and healing. We share and brainstorm nature sanctuary plans and ideas, and you continue to give us feedback.
This program is special because:
We receive support from King County and the Gathering Collaborative to create a healing sanctuary in communion with nature.
Where we meet:
We meet in person or virtually over Zoom, during the weekdays or weekends, sessions will be based on collective availability. In the late spring, we will start meeting indoor/outdoor in local green spaces and existing nature sanctuaries and will have more community events.
There is no cost:
Because of the support we received from King County and the Gathering Collaborative, the program is free to you. To thank you for investing time in co-designing a Nature Sanctuary you receive a gift card upon taking a close-out survey.
